Flushing systems for efficient backwashing and optimal water quality

We offer advanced flushing systems that ensure efficient backwashing, which is essential to maintain high water quality in your pool. By effectively removing contaminants and bacteria from the filter bed, our systems help to reduce chlorine consumption and minimise the risk of bacterial growth.

The EnviroProcess offering also includes solutions that include air flushing, a separate chlorinated flush tank, flush pump and ProHeat heat recovery. These components together provide an efficient and energy-efficient solution suitable for both small and large baths.

Nine basic tips for good filter hygiene

  1. Use chlorinated rinse water with at least 1.0 mg/l chlorine. Ensure a low pH value (<pH 7.4) to maintain the chlorination effect.
  2. Flush with highly chlorinated water once a month, minimum 5.0 mg/L.
  3. Check that the entire filter bed is fluidised during the flushing phase, preferably using a plumb bob.
  4. If the flushing capacity is too low, consider changing to a different filter media.
  5. Make sure you have enough water to flush for at least 5 minutes without interruption.
  6. Allow the sludge water to flow out of the filter by self-fall (pressureless flushing).
  7. Air flushing improves filter media cleaning and reduces water consumption.
  8. Regularly check the quality of the filtrate, including microorganisms.
  9. Use flame sterilisable sample tap for sampling.

Effective backwashing with chlorine dioxide

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is another option for disinfecting the filter bed, more efficient than chlorine and effective against biofilm regardless of the pH value. We recommend adding 0.6 mg/L ClO2 to the flush water at each flush and 3.0 mg/L ClO2 monthly. Equipment for the production and dosing of chlorine dioxide is available from us.

Optimised backwash for sand filters

For sand filters, about 6 m³ of flushing water is required per m² of filter surface at each flushing time. The flushing speed should be sufficient to expand and fluidise the sand bed, usually 50-65 m/h depending on the filter media and water temperature. Unpressurised flushing with an overflow in the filter improves flushing and provides a higher water quality. Regular flushing with chlorinated water, at least 1 mg/L and monthly at least 5 mg/L, is recommended to avoid growth in the filter bed.

Advantages of air flushing

Combining water and air flushing saves money and significantly improves filter cleaning efficiency. Air flushing helps to release dirt from the sand grains and reduces flushing water consumption up to 40%. This results in cleaner filter sand and improved water quality. Our air backwash blowers are supplied as complete units, rack-mounted and fitted with a sound-dampening hood.
