Here we have collected and explained important concepts and terms in bathing water treatment.
Number of bathers
Simultaneous maximum number of bathers in a single pool
Attraction water
Bathing water used in the attractions of the establishment. Attraction water must be of controlled water quality, e.g. pool water or water from a tank with controlled disinfection.
Bleed water
Bath water discharged from the process plant.
Backwashing
Flushing of filters
Bath load
Number of bathers x bathing frequency (bathers/hour).
Pool bathing
Pool bathing is an umbrella term for a range of bathing facilities, from pools to open-air areas, where the water is recirculated with some form of purification and disinfection.
biofilm
Harbouring of micro-organisms, can affect water quality.
Bound chlorine
Bound active chlorine, formed by the reaction of subchloric acid with impurities.
CFU - Colony Forming Units
Measure of bacterial content (Colony forming units)
Oxidisation
Chemical process for purification.
Turbidity (Cloudiness)
Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness of water.
Self-monitoring
Systematic monitoring and documentation of water quality.
Legionella
Legionella - Disease-causing bacteria that are important to control.
Redox potential
Redox potential - Indicator of the disinfection capacity of the water.
Chloramines
By-products of chlorination that may affect air and water quality.
UV light
Method for disinfection of water.
Operators
Person responsible for water quality and safety.
